CNN, in a report on Donald Rumsfeld’s speech to the American Legion, notes that Rumsfeld calls the very large group of people that don’t support the war in Iraq cowards. Additionally, any one that questions the war suffers from “moral and intellectual confusion.”
And the most ironic part: We also need a history lesson.

Our first Army Men adventure was a great success - we quickly and easily placed all 430 army men throughout downtown and the U of U. Almost everyone that we ran into could appreciate what we were doing and fully supported it.
I call it our “first” army men adventure because we plan on doing this again. It was so much fun and it was for a good cause, and we didn’t get nearly enough army men placed. We don’t expect that any of these army men will be seen by Bush, but we hope that it will at least serve as a reminder to people going about their daily activities that we’re in an ill-conceived war, and our soldiers need to come home.

We have ordered the army men (about 425) and we have the labels to print the stickers. We will probably bring the supplies to our meeting at the Piper Down on August 18th to receive help attaching the labels and spreading the word. As far as the project goes, we will begin gathering on Saturday August 26th, at 10:00 am at the Salt Lake Roasting Company and then deploy at 10:30 to try and avoid the heat.

We would like to thank Pat Rusk for coming out to speak to us about education issues. She has some great ideas when it comes to education, and her ideas our well thought-out. She also had plenty of statistics to back up her arguments. We need legislators with the same understanding of the importance of education that she has. Our group has a surprising amount of educators, and even though many of them weren’t there that night, the ones that were there that I talked to after her speech were roused and inspired by what she had to say.
Pat mentioned G.R.E.A.T., for the Grass Roots Education Action Team. Please email kim.campbell [at] utea.org to be added to that list. Current updates will also be posted to our website.
What: The Drinking Liberally SLC weekly meetup. RETURN OF GUEST SPEAKERS! With Back-to-School around the corner, and many educators in our group, education is the theme. Drinking Liberally welcomes Pat Rusk, former Utah Education Association president, who is very excited to be among like-minded individuals to share her thoughts on our current education needs and shortcomings. She is a speaker you will not want to miss.
Where: Piper Down Pub, 1492 S. State Street, SLC (Tell ‘em you’re with Drinking Liberally at the door)
The Pennsylvanian senator of Utah, Orrin Hatch, recently reiterated something he’s said before: that a vote for a Democrat is a vote for another terrorist attack on the U.S. I wish I could say this is one of the stupidest things he’s ever said, but it isn’t. And much like his extended middle finger for a PCTV ad, he doesn’t seem to remember his own actions.
I know Americans have kind of accepted the idea of having batshit insane leaders, but can we really support the onset of dementia that our doddering sentator seems to exhibit?
From Barbara Boxer’s PAC for a Change e-mail:
“By now you’ve probably heard about the remarks recently made by Senator George Allen at one of his campaign events, aimed at a young Democratic volunteer who was attending and videotaping the event.
Watch Senator Allen’s stunning remarks here.
As you can see in the video, Senator Allen calls this young Webb campaign volunteer of Indian descent “macaca,” which means monkey, and is a racial epithet used in some European cultures for people with dark skin. And he doesn’t use this term once, but twice. On top of that, Senator Allen tells him, “Welcome to America” as if he’s some kind of outsider.
Well, this young Webb campaign volunteer has a name, and it’s S.R. Sidarth. Senator Allen should have known this because Mr. Sidarth introduced himself to the Senator before the event. Mr. Sidarth is a student at the University of Virginia, and he’s an American, born and raised in Virginia.
This is just one more example — a very visible and disturbing one — of how out of touch Senator Allen is. So far he has only offered a half-hearted apology to Mr. Sidarth, claiming he had no idea “macaca” was a racially charged term. The facts belie this explanation.
This feeble attempt at an apology is simply not good enough.
Let’s send Senator Allen a strong message from our PAC for a Change community that America deserves better. If George Allen can’t appreciate the diversity of Virginia, then he simply doesn’t understand that this is what makes America so strong.
Stand up and reject Senator Allen’s divisive politics — Please contribute to Virginia Democratic nominee Jim Webb’s campaign for U.S. Senate today!

It all started just one year ago… less than a dozen strangers gathered at Mo’s Tavern with hopes of finding “others” like them. With no agenda, and no idea what the future would bring, Drinking Liberally of Salt Lake City was born.
One year later, 250 strong and growing, it is time to celebrate! Join us for a night of “guiltless pleasure” as we attend Saturday’s Voyeur 2006 - Bendover: The Tale of Two Cities on Friday, August 11.
For those who have never been exposed to Saturday’s Voyeur, it is Salt Lake Acting Company’s 2½ hour jab at living in Utah. It is also a place where liberals are the majority. Cabaret table seating is available.
Recently reviewed by Jeremiah, he says, “It is funny as hell!” Heather and Beckie gave it a thumbs up and said “Definitely much better than last year!”
Bring a picnic basket (food and drinks of all types are allowed) and join the fun.
To order tickets: Call 363-7522 and say you are with Heather Culligan and Drinking Liberally.
HURRY!! SLAC will only hold our Drinking Liberally seats until July 10th at which time they will be released to the general public.
Already bought your tickets? Simply call and change nights. Or better yet - go again!
