If you didn’t attend the Aug. 30th war/Bush protest on Washington Square, you’ve probably at least seen the news footage and pictures of what turned out to be a great demonstration of what it means to be a patriot.
Salt Lake City made waves not only locally, but nationally as well. Media personalities who pay attention and care about democracy, like Keith Olbermann, have reported on the rally. Hell, even Fox News felt they should get Rocky on their “Fox and Friends” show and challenge him. That was a mistake on Fox’s part; Rocky gave them hell.

One Good Move excellently documents the protest with collected footage. If you haven’t checked out One Good Move yet, you really should. I’ve been to the site a few times, but for some reason haven’t ever added the link to our site. It reminds me of Crooks and Liars for Utah.
The protest had many of the time-worn, cliched signs and songs of past protests, as well as new variations on those same cliches. However, there was no shortage of originality in regards to the protest signs. I didn’t go to any of the pro-Bush rallies (or pay attention to any news coverage of them), so I don’t really know if their signs were meant to make you think as much as the anti-Bush, anti-war signs were. Anti-war signs, sound-bites they might be, have bigger, important meanings. My favorite sign wasn’t one of those, however: “If you can read this, you’re not the President”.
