No Meetup this week, another citizen lobby training tonight!

Fully addressed liberals,

Even though there’s plenty to talk about after the State of the Union address last night, it’s the 5th Friday of the month so that means we won’t be having another meetup for a couple weeks, until Feb 12th.

On February 26th, Laura has lined up Representatives Jen Seelig, David Litvack, and Mark Wheatley, as well as Senator Ben McAdams! They’ll be coming out to share some thoughts and answer your questions about this year’s legislative session.

Did you miss the City Weekly/Drinking Liberally citizen lobbyist training a couple weeks ago? Well you can attend a citizen lobbying training that HEAL Utah is putting on tonight (Thursday, Jan 28th) from 6:30-8:30 in the Copper Room of the east building at the Capitol building. DL has attended their citizen lobby training before, and they always do it well. In addition to HEAL, the Utah Rivers Council and Fair Boundaries will be there. And so will Rep. Rebecca Chavez-Houck. So most of the same people who were at the City Weekly training. It’s a good way to learn how to get more involved. More info here.

If we don’t see you at some liberal event around town, we’ll see you at Drinking Liberally on the 12th!
Laura, Heather, Jeremiah

Regular meet-up this Friday, January 22nd

Liberal legislative lobbyists,

Last week’s Citizen Lobbying Drinking Session put on by City Weekly filled the back room of the Piper Down and was as informative as it was fun. Thanks to the guest speakers, Rep. Rebecca Chavez-Houck, Eric Spreng of HEAL Utah, and Curtis Haring of Fair Boundaries. And thanks of course to City Weekly for organizing it and inviting us to participate. You can find some pictures on our DL flickr page here. Park City TV was also there to cover it, so keep an eye out for it there.

Friday, February 19, we are planning a trip up north to drink liberally with our sister chapter in Ogden. Sara and Jon have always been such gracious hosts and we were excited to see them at our special meet-up with City Weekly last week. FrontRunner has worked well in the past, those interested in driving can contact us for help arranging carpools. More details will be emailed out as the date approaches.

This Friday, January 22nd, we’ll be having our regular Drinking Liberally meet-up, once again in the back room of the Piper Down from 6:30-9:30. There’s plenty to talk about: the situation in Haiti, the election in Massachusetts, the Utah House Majority Leader being caught while driving drunk. So join us, won’t you?

See you tomorrow night!

Citizen Lobbying Drinking Session

Lobbying liberals,

It’s the third Friday of the month so we wouldn’t normally meet, but this Friday (the 15th) we’re having a special event in conjunction with City Weekly’sCitizen Lobbying Drinking Session“. City Weekly will have speakers who will provide tips on tracking down your legislators and communicating your most important issues to them, among other things.

This will also be at the Piper Down, but from 7-10pm. If you’re on Facebook, the event is here. The guest speakers include one of the state’s most dedicated representatives, Rebecca Chavez-Houck, as well as Eric Spreng of HEAL Utah, an organization that puts on an excellent (though booze-less) citizen lobbying training each year.

Next Friday we’ll be back at the Piper Down for a regular meet-up.

We hope you’ll join us, this is sure to be a fun way to learn how to get involved in the process.
