Votin’ liberals,
The election season is heating up even as the weather cools down. Both these things tend to bring a few more people out to Drinking Liberally. This is the last Drinking Liberally meetup before the election, so join us tomorrow night in the back room of the Piper Down. We start at 6:30 but you can come and go at any time.
It’s not just the election we’ll have to discuss though. It’s also being reported that the DABC has been violating Utah’s open meeting laws. 66 closed meeting discussions were audited from Jan 2009 to April of 2010, and all but eight of them were inappropriately closed. Hmm. Anyone surprised?
See you tomorrow night!

Fall liberals,
What a great conference! No, we’re not talking about the LDS general conference. We’re talking about the much more open and fun Living Liberally Leadership conference, which was also held right here in Salt Lake City.
We had chapter leaders from all over the country, including South Carolina, Kentucky, New York, California, Idaho, Illinois, New Hampshire, Ohio, Missouri and North Carolina. You probably noticed a lot of those are red states, so we were lucky to have former mayor Rocky Anderson come out to our conference and give a talk on liberal leadership in a conservative area. And our Saturday night party was a lot of fun, with plenty of good beer, funny comedy, and a great presentation by Trib cartoonist Pat Bagley.
Thanks to everyone who came out Friday and Saturday night, and especially to those who helped to make the conference a success. I know we changed some perceptions about Utah (or at least Salt Lake City) with many of the out-of-towners. In fact Ed from New Hampshire even did a write-up for his turn at Top Comments on DailyKos: Drinking Liberally Conference on DailyKos
Tomorrow night at 6:30 we’ll be back at the Piper Down for our regular Drinking Liberally meetup. It’s good people like you who keep Drinking Liberally going, so please join us!
And if you’re looking for something to do on Saturday, Rocky’s organization, High Road For Human Rights are holding a music festival at Liberty Park from 1:00 – 7:00 featuring Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. It’s part of 350.org’s 10/10/10 global initiative to raise awareness about climate protection. Beer and wine will be available, as well as bike valet. More info on the HRHR website.
See you tomorrow night!
