Its That DL Time of the Week Again!

Hello all, we will be having our regularly scheduled meeting tomorrow evening from 6:30-9:30 PM at Piper Down (1492 S. State Street) As usual, we will be in the back room.

There is a lot of political stuff to discuss.

Local

We just had the off-year elections so naturally everyone took three days off and now candidates have begun announcing for next year’s elections. This week has seen Pete Ashdown decide to run against Orin Hatch again and Ben McAdams jump into the Salt Lake County racethat already has Senator Ross Romero in it. Not to be outdone, the GOP has their own inter-party showdown lining up in the new Congressional District 4 race between Carl Wimmer and Stephen Sandstrom.

When WVC Mayor Mike Winder grows up he wants to be a journalistnamed Richard Burwash.

The privatization of liquor sales idea is floating around again. I believe it is Sen. Valentine’s turn to kill it.

National

Senator Mike Lee wants his own Super PAC just like Stephen Colbert.

The Occupy Wall Street protests got a bit crazy in NYC today.

The Republican candidates discussed foreign policy in the 246th debate of their 680 debate series.

World

Due to the Eurozone financial crisis, Italy has a new government.

The Arab League is getting tough with Asad over the Syrian crisis.

and finally, here is something funny:

20 Historical Facts That Republicans Distort Or Just Get Plain Wrong

We hope to see everyone tomorrow!

Drinking Liberally 11/11/11

Thanks to the candidates who joined us last week for our Meet-the-Candidate night. And congratulations are in order because Kyle LaMalfa, Luke Garrott, and Charlie Luke all won their seats. And Alan Anderson is still in the running and very close; they’re waiting for the tally from absentee and provisional ballots. So continuing good luck to him.

Join us this Friday for a regular Drinking Liberally meeting in the back room of the Piper Down. We’ve got all sort of things we can discuss, including the latest on the Occupy movement, the Penn State riots, the latest Republican Presidential debate, Pete Ashdown’s candidacy announcement, and of course the election results.

See you tomorrow night!

This Friday, November 4th, we will be holding our candidate forum. It will be held at our regular meeting place in the back room at Piper Down (1492 S. State St.) at out regularly scheduled time (6:30PM-9:30PM).

Our scheduled speakers are:

Alan Anderson – Midvale Dist 3
Kyle LaMalfa – SLC Dist 2
Luke Garrott – SLC Dist 4
Charlie Luke – SLC Dist 6

The SLC District 2 and District 6 races have become quite heated with the prospect of two sitting City Councilmen being unseated.

If you want to come prepared with questions, read up on the candidates here:

In the news:

The J.T. Martin/Charlie Luke race in district 6is pretty contentious. Ask Charlie Luke about it on Friday!

Now that redistricting is in, candidates are already jumping in the Congressional District 2 race.

The Eurozone economy is teetering as Greece fails to make any conclusive decisions.

The Asad regime continues to escalate the violence in Syria. Despitepromising the Arab League not to.

The mostly peaceful protests in OaklandTurned violent early Thursday morning.

The NBA lockout is still in effect and games continue to be canceled. Does anyone miss it?
