Drinking Liberally tonight

Hi all,

First, we’d like to thank Zach Frankel and Wendy Fischer from the Utah Rivers Council & Utah Open Lands for coming out to speak to us last week!

Tonight will be a regular, non-guest speaker Drinking Liberally meeting. There’s plenty to talk about, of course, starting with Jason Chaffetz’s early announcement that he’s not going to run again. LOTS of speculation around that. There’s the first 100 days of the Trump presidency. Government shutdown. Etc, etc.

So come join Jeremiah and the rest of your Drinking Liberally friends in the back room of the Piper Down tonight starting at 6pm!

Jeremiah, Laura,
Christian, Jason

Drinking Liberally SLC meets from 6:00-9:00 every every Friday in the back room of the Piper Down (1492 S. State Street).

Drinking Liberally tomorrow, guest speakers next Friday

Hello liberals! First things first: next Friday April 21st, in honor of Earth Day, we will have guest speakers Zach Frankel and Wendy Fischer joining us to discuss the important issues concerning Utah conservation efforts including both the Lake Powell Pipeline and Bear River Development as well as issues surrounding the conservation of open lands. So be sure to join us for that!

Much to talk about this week. A U.S. drone killed at least 18 Syrians allies; the worst friendly fire incident on this war on ISIL. So of course that’s followed by dropping the “mother of all bombs” on Afghanistan, which changed the headlines a bit. Sen Hatch’s seat is a big topic, with many prospective candidates eyeing it, though he says he’ll run again. He’s got lots of money but not a lot of popularity.

The Salt Lake Tribune won a Pulitzer prize! For the second time in the history of the paper, this time for their coverage of Utah college campus rape. Big kudos to them!

One final thing: if you’re a woman considering running for office, Real Women Run training will be held on April 22nd. They’ve seen a big uptick in women registering for this training, so if you’re thinking about going you might register soon https://realwomenrundotorg.wordpress.com/events/

Join Laura and Jeremiah for a regular meetup tomorrow!

Drinking Liberally Meetup Reminder, April 7

Hello everyone!

First, a special thanks to our guests last week, Nicole Nixon, Robert Gehrke, and Benjamin Wood. Their incites into the current state of journalism was informative and enlightening.

Second, our next guest speakers will be on April 21st. In honor of Earth Day, we will have Zach Frankel and Wendy Fischer join us to discuss the important issues concerning Utah conservation efforts including both the Lake Powell Pipeline and Bear River Development as well as issues surrounding the conservation of open lands. We will add more details as we get closer to the 21st but pencil us in if protecting the environment is one of your top concerns.

Join us tomorrow, April 7th from 6:00-9:00 PM for our regularly scheduled social gathering in the back room at Piper Down (1492 South State Street), we have a lot to talk about.

In The News

From local news where Terry Diehl, Utah politico and developer, of UTA fame, has been indicted by a grand jury on twelve charges concerning money he made/hid (allegedly) in connection with Front Runner, suggesting corruption at UTA. Is anyone remotely surprised?

Or there is the Senate invoking the nuclear option in order to force through the Gorsuch nomination to SCOTUS.

Then there is the bad case of deja vu with with what was likely sarin nerve gas being used by the Asad regime against Syrian civilians followed by our launch of more than fifty cruise missiles targeting regime assets. There is no way to concisely or glibly offer my opinion on the subject but if you want my area expertise on the subject, please ask me about it tomorrow.
