Drinking Liberally tomorrow

It’s time to buy your Saturday’s Voyeur tickets! Come join us on Friday, July 21st for our annual outing to the hilarious musical satire. Tickets are discounted to $40 if you tell them you’re with Drinking Liberally, and we’ve got seats reserved on all of row C, plus 2 seats each at tables RRR and BB. It’s selling out fast, so call them at 801-363-7522 to get your tickets right away.

Senate republicans released their plan to repeal and replace Obamacare, and it ain’t pretty. There are 4 senators who might sink the bill, including our own Mike Lee, though it sounds like their reasoning is because it doesn’t gut enough healthcare from citizens.

Locally, democrats chose a new party chair, Daisy Thomas, at convention last Saturday. They also nominated Kathie Allen as the Democratic candidate for Jason Chaffetz’s seat. Kathie is likely to face former state Rep Chris Herrod, who ran Ted Cruz’s presidential campaign last year. It seems like he has a bit of a maturity problem, but that hasn’t stopped Utahn’s from voting for someone before, at least not when they have an “R” next to their name.

Your hosts Laura and Jeremiah will see you tomorrow at Piper Down!

Drinking Liberally June 16th

Howdy Drinking Liberals,

Join us this Friday night for our regular meetup in the back bar at Piper Down 1492 S. State St. starting at 6pm.

Soooooo much to talk about, there’s the shooting at the baseball practice of the republicans for the annual republican vs democrats Congressional baseball game. Where instead of having civilized discussions about guns it only seems to be igniting a further divide between the left and the right on the topic. Chaffetz ahead of his premature exit from his term at the end of the month is now out as head of the congressional oversight committee. The special counsel is investigating Trump for potential obstruction of justice. This is just the tip of the iceberg of the big headlines this week. So come down and have a drink or two of your favorite beverage and lets talk about the current goings on.

Be sure to mark your calendars for July 21st when we will have our annual Drinking Liberally outing! More details to come really soon.

See you Friday night,
Christian, Laura
Jason, Jeremiah

Drinking Liberally Friday

The big topic of conversation this Friday at Drinking Liberally will no doubt be the Comey hearing. It didn’t sound good for Trump, but was somehow considered a “win” by Rep Chaffetz. Meanwhile in the villian’s lair – I mean the House – the majority voted to strip away many of the financial regulations put in place by Dodd-Frank that could keep us from another taxpayer funded bailout.

Mitt Romney is holding his annual E2 summit this weekend, and that means some big name politicians will be in town, like John McCain, Lindsey Graham, Paul Ryan, Joe Biden. wait… nope, that’s correct, former VP Joe Biden.

Along with road construction season locally, it must be shenanigan season. The Trib points out that House Speaker Greg Hughes listing an umbrella company on his financial disclosure form, which makes it harder to identify potential conflicts of interest. There’s the race for Utah Democratic party chairperson. Then there’s the case of the Salt Lake County Recorder, which is just bananas. He seems to have come down with a bad case of Trumpcoherence, which is to say little coherence. He rarely goes into the office, and in fact he says he doesn’t really know who his chief deputy is. http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865681392/The-trouble-with-Gary-Ott.h… So you might get a little discouraged and think “Utahns will vote for whomever has an R by their name”, just know that Utahns would vote for a Democratic president as long as they’re fictional http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865681358/In-new-fictional-presidenti…

So plenty to talk about, as always. Join Laura and Jeremiah this Friday in the back room of the Piper Down!

P.S. Put July 21st on your calendar to join us for our annual Drinking Liberally outing! More details to come.
