Hello liberals!

We’ve got a couple exciting announcements. We’ve invited all the Salt Lake City mayoral candidates to come out and chat with us! We’re still waiting to hear from Richard Goldberger, but here’s the schedule so far:
June 28: David Garbett, Rainer Huck & David Ibarra
July 12: Jim Dabakis & Erin Mendenhall
July 19: Luz Escamilla & Stan Penfold

We’re excited they’ve agreed to join us, so put these dates on your calendar – one of these people will be the next mayor of Salt Lake.

Then we’ve also nailed down a date for our annual anniversary outing to see Salt Lake Acting Company’s Saturday’s Voyeur, so while you’ve got your calendars out you’ll need to put this down too: July 26th.

And join us this Friday the 14th for our regular meetup in the back room of the Piper Down!

In the News

We can talk about how our jet setting President has been on a world tour recently, making excuses for dictators and alienating allies. Or we can talk about the tariffs on all Mexican goods set to begin next week. It seems kidnapping, caging, and allowing migrant children to be raped in custody just was not sending a strong enough message. Or we can talk about the extremely weird weather patterns across the country that are presumably part of some huge Chinese hoax to make climate change look real. In local news we can talk about the now 8 candidates running for SLC Mayor or the ridiculous amount of unlimited fundraising GOP stalwarts Hughes and Cox are collecting for their respective runs at the Utah Governor’s race. Also, SLC teachers are pushing for a 6% pay raise, which will still put them at one of the lower paid districts in the state. But, they are legally not allowed to speak about it at the public school board meetings while contract negotiations are underway. Ridiculous!

Another week in **ump’s America, another reason to meet for Drinking Liberally. Join us this Friday the 10th in the back room of the Piper Down.

As always there’s plenty of national news and casual atrocities to talk about, but on a somewhat local level (because the man behind it is a Utahn), we could talk about the idea of electing the vice-president, instead of having them a foregone conclusion based on the top ticket of the person running for president. Good Morning Drinking Liberals,

Saying good morning because i’ve been under the weather and was not able to get this email sent out on time last night. My apologies. So please join us tonight for Drinking Liberally at our regular time starting at 6pm in the back bar at Piper Down (1492 state st.)

As usual we have lots to **** about with **** releasing * redacted ******* of the Mueller ******. That is something that to me only proves that they are hiding something. Releasing a redacted version to the press is one thing but a redacted version to congress is another. Although congress has said that they will issue a subpoena for the full version and have asked Mueller to testify before congress in May. Lets see if anything comes of that.

So join me (Christian) tonight at Piper Down while we have a drink or two or four of our favorite beverages and eat some of the best bar food in the state while we unwind and discuss the current events of the week.

Hi all,

Join us this Friday at the Piper Down starting starting at 6:00 for our regular Drinking Liberally meeting! We can talk about the recent report that shows Hill Air Force Base is the most climate change-threatened base of any domestic Air Force, Army or Navy base. Flooding, wildfire, drought, and desertification are all concerns. Think Rep Rob Bishop (who’s on the House Armed Services Committee and represents HAF) will have anything to say on it??

Also, Senator Elizabeth Warren will be in Salt Lake this Wednesday – maybe anyone planning to go can coordinate rides with other DL members.

It looks like intermittent Spring is finally here! Soon we will be dodging the baseball stadium traffic in order to attend our regular meetups. So, join us tomorrow, Friday, April 5th For our meetup in the back room at Piper Down (1492 South, State Street) from 6:00-9:00 PM.

In the News

The President believes the sound of wind turbines causes cancer and he cannot pronounce the word “origins.” Also, he may or may not close the Southern border and he may or may not destroy the ACA with no replacement plan. So, a busy week!

Locally, the Governor has signed the bill that makes premarital sex no longer a crime. Just in case you were still sweating that one! He also signed HB 415 which forbids municipalities from changing or modifying police civilian review boards in order to make the boards stronger. Because our GOP legislators believe in something…something… small government. Unless they disagree with it. In which case they will pass laws that correct our misguided attempts to govern our own cities.

I would also advise skipping any gay cruise with a stopover in Brunei, if you happened to be thinking about one. Male gay sex, along with adultery, is now punishable by stoning to death and lesbian sex is punishable by 100 lashes. And so far it seems everyone is counting on George Clooney, for some reason, to lead the charge for social justice. If only we had some Federal government agency or department that could be tasked with the job of interacting with foreign governments in order to promoting our values overseas and threatening consequences, if allies transgress too much!
